You think I’m standing here, looking at these two pieces of furniture, mechanical pencil in hand, just hoping against hope that you’d come along, so I could mystify you into wondering what the hell it is I’m doing? ERIC: …Not entirely. JEFF: Not entirely? ERIC: No, not entirely. JEFF: Good for you. Your grasp on reality seems to be returning. It’s not all the way back, because you said, not entirely, which leads me to believe there’s still some small part of you that thinks some of it is about you. Otherwise— ERIC: I think some if it is. Still. JEFF: Did I know you were coming along? ERIC: That’s not my point. JEFF: What is your point? ERIC: You may be doing something. Really doing it. I guess you’re going to use that pencil for something. I didn’t notice it at first, but there it is. I can’t deny that you’re holding a pencil. JEFF: Why would you want to? ERIC: Why, indeed? I wouldn’t. But you’re not doing whatever it is you’re planning on doing. At least not yet. At least not with that pencil, with that mechanical pencil.
